Job Description:

OCRM or Obstacle Course Racing Media is looking for Global Race Reporters to travel to obstacle racing events across the world in order to provide fans and our viewers with the most up to date information on the races, athletes, and developing stories.

Your job as a Global Race Reporter will be to travel to your favorite obstacle course races around the world in order to get the latest scoop and action from the race day. OCRM will fit your race schedule into their reporting coverage, along with the opportunity to choose from a list of new events across the world, OCRM is looking to cover. Expenses will be paid for, along with any race entries, after the job has been completed. As a reporter, you will be on camera and must be knowledgeable with operating a camera and uploading all footage to cloud databases.

OCRM is intended to provide high-impact stories that will be relevant to a new content vertical developing alongside our three other coverage titles, the OCRM Update, OCRM Insider and OCRM Network.com. Stories might include tracking developing course conditions, investigations of race organizations, profiles of athletes and stories that will generally make sense of the progress of this business and its effects on established industries.

Applicants should have experience covering sports and/or the sport of obstacle course racing. They must be able to develop sources and knowledge of affairs directly affecting the future growth of our audience of obstacle course racing, mud runs, olympic events, and developing obstacle shows.

Note that this is not an enthusiast, review or satirical site. Applicants must be able to work independently to develop sources and stories, be able to think creatively about storytelling in a multimedia environment, and be able to produce a solid mix of breaking news and broader enterprise stories on a consistent, reliable basis.

The reporter must check in, schedule and take assignment from the editor-in-chief. This is a task based position, but it involves communication and research on current events and topics with the editor-in-chief. The ideal candidate must be personable and outgoing (comfortable on camera and, at times, on stage), with excellent professional networking skills and passion for understanding the business and supplying information to an engaged audience. Candidate may be featured on our TV shows, series and documentaries distributed on applications such as FlixFling, Amazon Prime, Comcast, etc.

Responsibilities include:

  • Establishing a network of contacts and sources to fuel an emerging OCRM

  • Filing between 4-6 stories per month

  • Screening and posting press release submissions in concert with the OCRM editors

  • Gathering and maintaining a database of sources and story ideas -- and pursuing them so that several are capable of being “hatched” at a given time

  • Executing same-day news with perspective and engaging sources beyond a single speaker, when possible

  • Pitching a mix of enterprise and features derived from ongoing stories and new ideas gleaned from sources and research

  • Proposing potential content for live events and preparing the content and the speakers who are involved in a timely fashion, as well as the announcements and marketing of those segments

  • Travel to obstacle races, industry trade shows or to companies to perform video or podcast interviews, as needed

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Journalism (or similar) Bachelor's Degree

  • Strong oral and written communication skills

  • Strong computer skills, ideally with experience using Wordpress, image editing tools

  • Photography and videography experience is a plus

  • Superior organizational skills and attention to detail (we use Asana for task management)

  • Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines

  • Strong interpersonal skills

  • Ability to pick up new tasks quickly and work with minimal supervision
