World’s Largest Obstacle Race and Endurance Brand Transforms Stadiums into OCR Battlegrounds; Series Begins April 21 at Citi Field in New York

BOSTON (April 18, 2018) – Thousands of Spartans take the field Saturday, April 21 at the home of the New York Mets, kicking-off the 2018 Spartan Stadium Series, which turns the hallowed grounds of America’s most beloved ballparks and stadiums into obstacle racing arenas. Testing the grit, endurance and athleticism of participants, the series unfolds across 10 events, with three being championship races offering more than $35,000 in cash prizes, a new edition to this year’s circuit.

“The Spartan Stadium Series is naturally a competitive event, given the location and fast-paced action on the course,” said Spartan Founder and CEO Joe De Sena. “Creating the championship element provides our racers the opportunity to battle for an elevated prize purse and clout on the same playing fields as the most recognized pro athletes in the world.”

The three-race Stadium Series Championship, unfolds at Citi Field in New York, NY, AT&T Park in Arlington, TX and Fenway Park in Boston, MA. Prize money will be awarded to the top 10 male and female athletes at the three events, with series champions being crowned based on cumulative ranking points.

Also new to this year’s Spartan Stadium Series is the addition of the number 15. Accounting for the fast pace and style of Stadium events, Spartan will drop the number of burpee penalties from 30 to 15 repetitions. All counting obstacles change from 20 to 15, including Box Jumps, locker room Pushups, Jump Ropes, Ball Slams and more, increasing the speed of play.

“The changes in stadium events, reflect the shorter distance and faster speed of play among athletes,” said Spartan Director of Sport and Training Joe DiStefano. “Dropping the rep count to 15 will make the races more competitive among elite athletes and in some ways, more approachable for newcomers to the sport.”

The series provides racers with unprecedented access to the storied stadiums with opportunities to step onto the field where the pros play including the Dodgers, Cowboys, Red Sox, Phillies, Nationals, the San Francisco Giants, St. Louis Cardinals and more. The events are fast and furious, blending the existing attributes of the facilities (inside and out) with the brand’s signature obstacles – racing down narrow concourses with sharp turns, wall and rope climbs on the warning tracks, pushups in the locker rooms, sandbag carries in the stands, Assault Air bikes on the roof decks and more.

All Spartan Stadium events feature heats for all ages and abilities, from beginner to elite – and Spartan Kids Race offer courses at varying distances for kids ages 4 to 13 years old.
