This race has a lot of positive attributes from the moment I arrived at the venue. First of, parking was free. The registration process seems to have been quick and streamlined as I didn’t see any people in lines waiting and athletes were able to pick up their race packets in advanced. There was a hiccup with the finishers shirts but City Challenge was very quick and upfront in communicating that shirts will be mailed out to people as soon as they are available.
The festival area was well organized and managed to keep people engaged and hanging out.
Spectating areas were very accessible and in the shade with plenty of seats.
The starting line was supper fun and looked like an ongoing party was on at all time. Justin Manning did a tremendous job hosting.

OCRM Network was on site covering the action and transmitting live via their Facebook and Streaming channel.
We heard great feedback from top athletes who participated on the elite waves. Comments ranged from “it was a tough course” to “this is the best City Challenge to date”. Also great comments regarding the floating walls, and some of the other obstacles such as Endless Stairs.
On the flip side some of the negative comments we’ve heard were related to not enough water on the course, race times being delayed and too many people walking onto the course around the stands.
I did not get to run the course. In my personal opinion I saw people having fun, enjoying the race and music. City Challenge is a relatively new race and will keep learning from issues and mistakes. I think once they workout a few small and simple logistics issues it will continue to grow and become a player in the OCR field.
