In South Africa, the Sport of OCR now has WINGS!

"From my side I am extremely humbled and at the same time so proud to be a RedBull athlete, being associated with the legends around the world under this dynamic brand." - Tonder

Today is a very exciting day for the OCR Community. Red Bull, the known extreme sport sponsor has decided to take on the daring and exotic racer, Thomas Van Tonder of SAOCR (South Africa Obstacle Course Racing). This will mark the second OCR Athlete to become an official representative of the Red Bull Brand, a brand known to spread its wings on a global scale. Alex Roudayna was the first Red Bull Sponsored Athlete that had competed in the sport of OCR, but was listed as a runner. Tonder will be the ONLY OCR athlete at this time for Red Bull. If nothing else, this shows that the sport may not have reached the peak, so many had assumed in recent times.

OCRM Insiders caught up with Thomas Van Tonder and spoke with him about this recent accomplishment. Tonder explained:

"It's a huge step for OCR as a growing sport to get the interest or aproval of a brand like RedBull, and at the same time it's step in a new direction form thier side as well, opening a brand new sport portfolio with the first ever RedBull OCR athlete under cap."

Thomas for some time now has became a symbol in the South African OCR Community with a very accomplished record in the sport and now feel like this, may be the next step in the evolution of the sport. He also spoke of the honor in which this sponsorship has presented to him.

"From my side I am extremely humbled and at the same time so proud to be a RedBull athlete, being associated with the legends around the world under this dynamic brand." - Tonder

As South Africa continues to build its role in the OCR Community, it seems both the sport and Thomas are determined to bring Obstacle Course Racing forward in the eyes of the world.

"I know however that the hard work is now in front of me, at least it excites me more than it scares me, so looking forward to the journey ahead." -Thomas van Tonder #BeastMode
